| January 27, 1944 - Turkeys Cooked for
Christmas (1943) "We had turkey alright and I had my share,
but when two turkeys have to go around to thirty I sort of let them
have the best. Funny how no one appreciates a cook. The papers meant
the servicemen in the states I guess..."

 April 19, 1944 - Easter Holiday - A Foible of Being a Cook
 Oran, Algeria

No celebrations at all and if no one would remind me I'd believed
it weren't till the following week. Lose all idea of time since we
know we shan't be going any place in particular. Wonderful feeling
to know a war can't last forever even though it does seem to be lasting
              for ages..."

dissatisfied. Not with the Navy or even a war-but with being a cook.
The last straw came out when I was called a "Dame", or "Dearie" and
              above all "Cookie"..."
