April 3, 1944 - War is Hell-The Meaning of Freedom-His Album

"...Over here it's in truth not a picnic. Excitement pretty often and I sure will welcome one night at home just staring at the bulkheads and listening to the radio. Gee! Are these houses ever lousy. War is hell let no one kid you. Thank God America is still untouched. Funny how none of us never really knew our country. Freedom -Thanks to the war I realize what it is to be free...Incidentally my album is slowly getting filled and the top tore off. Wonder if somehow you can send a large one such as mine to me. (Dad's brother) to write me when he gets in the Army. By the way I met Paul Buchko, a friend of Tony's (another brother) if you recall over here in Italy. He says to send his best..."
